The Server's Tale
As an avid fan of "Top Chef," I often found myself wondering what bus boys, servers and maitre d's thought about working with the chefs at four-star restaurants.
Now I know.
Stephen Curry is a manchild
Wow.
ESPN junkies will by now have witnessed the exploits of one Stephen Curry. The Davidson guard goes off for 40 on the weekly.
This kid is bonkers with it. Even on a 15-of-33 shooting night, he's electrifying to watch. You may say, "Who cares, Matt, it's just the non-conference schedule. It's nt time to start paying attention to college basketball."
Obama's sense of hope
Just finished reading President-elect Barack Obama's "The Audacity of Hope," which mixes autobiographical passages with his ideas for making America a better and stronger country. Obama writes fluid, graceful prose that generally steers clear of self-indulgence, even in the autobiographical sections, and he makes strong arguments for his ideas without being strident. If you followed his presidential campaign and are wondering how he'll perform as president, this book is a good place to start.
About Eric
If you're interested in books -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- then I'm glad to welcome you aboard. I'm looking forward to lively discussions of books, reading and anything else that comes to mind.
Welcome to Book Beat
When I was growing up, one of my favorite activities was going down to the local bookshop and spending hours browsing through its selection. I found endless treasures there, from Anne Lamott's novel "Rosie" to my first copy of Tennessee Williams' classic play "A Streetcar Named Desire." I spent way too much money there, but I usually came away with food for my mind and -- if I was especially lucky -- my soul.
Hennesy staying put at Muskogee High after talks with Snyder
Just got off the phone with Matt Hennesy, former Dodge City High School Red Demon football coach, after hearing whispers that he was going to interview for a position on Bill Snyder's KSU staff.
Hennesy would only say that he and Snyder "talked about a few different things" and that he was not offered any position during those talks. He told me that Snyder would not start the official hiring process until the new year, and that the Muskogee Rougher coach could not wait that long.
Solace in history
When I was a kid, one of my favorite places to go was the library. There seemed to be something almost sacred about the silence. Easily within your grasp — or the librarian's on a ladder — were countless millions of pages of knowledge.
It was a breath-taking thought. Well, as breath-taking as my sugar-addled 6-year-old brain could comprehend.
One place I never sought solace, however, was history. Even more so, local history.
The afterbirth of Tessica Somo
Did you hear what Ben I-Can't-Spell-Your-Last-Name Roethlisberger said about my boy Tony Romeo?
This from Steelerslive.com. The conversation with ESPN's Tafoya also got into the who media sensation that is the star-studded Couple-Bot 5000. First Bennifer. Then Brangelina. Now, I dub ye new It-couple Tessica Somo.
The Green Thing
I have had several people ask me about Green Living and what he heck makes someone green. I am not an expert but there are several ways to be green, some are easy like just recycling, carpooling or just adding insulation to your home.
