my name is Lamanda (Voelker) Whitaker, and Greensburg is my hometown. I moved to Greensburg in 1974 just right after my brother Rick was born, we lived in a trailer home on the west side of Greensburg for about a year, then we moved it to Grove street, 410 n. Grove street. we lived there for about 4 years maybe less. we were neighbors with Pat and Bryce Nelson, they had two children, Paul and Naomi. We then moved to a home on Sycamore street 215 S. Sycamore street and we remained there until 1986-1987 when we moved to Protection, Ks. I was going to stay and finish my senior year, but somethings popped up I had to go down there. I knew every home, every person that lived there, every back road, and I hung around with Skipper Barnes and his sister Leabeth for the longest time, Billie Barnes was my adopted mom(2) I had (2) moms actually, they both took care of me. but Marsha and Dennis had the rights to me, lol. I remember Greensburg as a fun , easy town, and I really enjoyed being in Greensburg, Greensburg is my hometown and will always be my home town, my husband and I had plans to move back to the town this summer, I remember all the times at the pool, the soda store with Dick giving me cokes with chocolate, just visiti ng with him, every day after school I would walk in and smile at him at the counter he would always give me a free small coke, he never charged me for it, from the time i was in 1st grade to my sophmore year in high school. my home was a pink home with a full basement that could be used as an apartment, nice big back yard with garage, although the tree that was out front next to the drive way I will never forget the times my dad hit that darn tree while backing out each morning for work. my neighbors to the west of us debbie and farrell allison I used to play with their kids they lived behind us, mrs wheeler a little old lady lived next door to us used to make us cookies and give us milk, she lived to the north of us, and I want to say Mrs Kirby lived on the corner she was a speech therapst at that time in the school. I will miss my grade school and high school there was a reason for the grade school to have the name it did, there is alot of memories that will remain with me, i will never forget. I am wanting to come home again someday when Greensburg heals from the shock, pain and devestation that has done to this town. Mother Nature knocked us down, we get up, brush off our knees and move forward.. if anyone wants to e-mail me they can here is my addy. mandy |

Living in Greensburg
I too spent many wonderful hours in Greensburg and dated guys from there. I am from Kinsley but have family in Greensburg. Years ago I went to school in Greensburg and stayed with my Aunt and Uncle on the farm while my sister was in the hospital after a serious accident. I have many many fond memories. My sister later married a Greensburg boy. I can only say I was in total shock when I was able to drive thru town. I had no clue where I was nor what streets were what till I got to the stop light that no longer exsists. I wanted to cry but was in too much shock to even do that.
I am related to the Randel's and the Kilgore's in Greensburg. My friends were the Davis's, Stone's Lawson's, Brent's, Harding's, and so many more I do not remember all the names. My sister married Phil Fark, they later divorced. So you can see I too had many friends there. Many ties to a town so devastated. Greensburg will rebuild. They are made out of all the right stuff.
I also had a friend with your maiden name. Fred and Annie Voelker. Are they related to you?
