Consistency!

Consistency!

It's long been the bane of the Daily Globe's Web site.

But, those days are over. Starting this week, dodgecity.com goes live at noon every day with that day's news stories, as well as constant updates as news breaks across southwest Kansas.

Want your news right away in a handy electronic form? Check out our e-scriptions at http://dodgecitydailyglobe.ks.newsmemory.com/.

Also, those who voiced their support of full obituatries online, those should be making a come back as well.

A mobile community

The Daily Globe is a paper going through an identity crisis.

As a growing community of 30,000, the median age of Dodge City continues to get younger. The number of readers on our Web site is going up and more and more people are reading the Globe.

But, not all of our readers are online. While we continue to appeal to the younger generation — area high school and college students — we also owe it to our readers who love their deadwood edition. And it's a love I share.

Improving from day to day

The cool thing about being in charge of a smaller newsroom is how involved the locals get.

People in Dodge City feel like they have stock in the local newspaper. When people feel like we're doing our job well, they brag us up. When they feel like we're letting them down, they're certainly not afraid to let us know that either.

Lots of moving and shaking going on

Sorry things have been quiet on the blog front lately. The entire staff is wrapping up our annual Progress section, which is about 60 pages of local content.

Keep an eye out for it April 30 and keep checking out blogs.dodgeglobe.com for new updates.

Getting wired

Lazy jokes about stale coffee aside, the Daily Globe is dipping its toe into the world wide web.

Changes

It's been interesting to note the difference of opinions we've received since we announced our decision to retire the Globe Exchange. While some have said they were pleased to see it go, we've had others that have asked us to reconsider it, as they enjoyed the unvarnished, anonymous opinions.

We definitely appreciate the feedback we've received so far. Good and bad, it shows that people are reading our newspaper and personally involved with our features.

Times, they are a-changin'

Keep your eyes on the Daily Globe in the upcoming month.

With a new year comes new changes and improvements to your Dodge City Daily Globe.

TV news station attacked in Mexico

My mom always used to say we shouldn't take things for granted.

Good words to live by, even as an adult.

This story from the BBC seems to under line that nugget of wisdom on a professional level: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7815067.stm

In an effort to stop Mexican journalists from reporting on the drug cartels that have overrun the country, gunmen showered the TV station with bullets.

Dodge City's getting around

A photo the Globe shot the first day of December is making its rounds around the country.

Not only has the Christian Science Monitor picked up the photo, it's run both in-state and in various other national publications.

It's pretty cool to see Dodge City getting play alongside Jordan, Bulgaria and India.
