Improving from day to day

The cool thing about being in charge of a smaller newsroom is how involved the locals get.

People in Dodge City feel like they have stock in the local newspaper. When people feel like we're doing our job well, they brag us up. When they feel like we're letting them down, they're certainly not afraid to let us know that either.

Which is why we're hoping to get you, the reader, even more involved in the upcoming months. In an effort to increase the amount of local content our followers have access to, staff blogs were introduced late last year. Now, we're working out a system to have some community bloggers to address other local topics we may be missing.

Also, for those of you who regularly visit dodgecity.com you may have noticed our new weekly polls. The most recent one can be found on the front page of the site, so be sure and pop on over and let your voice be heard.

And unlike the old dodgeglobe.com site, you can now comment on stories to let others know what you think about what's going on around town and southwest Kansas. All we ask is that you play nice: No personal attacks, no libelous statements, no bigotry, etc.

And for those who can't get enough of the Globe's print edition, we're not ignoring you either. Earlier this year we launched our completely-local Culture page and the response has been tremendous. With a full staff of talented, community-minded reporters, we're boosting the local inside and out in our daily print product.

Don't forget to check out my fellow bloggers on blogs.dodgeglobe.com, either.
